The History Of

PRoChiropractic So Far

There were established ProChirop. ass. in the following European countries: Great Britain, Italy, Netherland, Norway, Sweden, Schweiz and Denmark. The oldest is in Denmark - established in 1920. These ass. are all founded by lay-men, who have personal experiences of the value of chiropractic and who, out of gratitude, have wished to do their bit to make it possible for other sufferers to enjoy similar benefit. They work for the cause independent of the chiropractors - but with the same aim - and execlusively serve the interests of the patients. Apart from rendering financial aid to patients, who should benefit from chiropractic treatment, but lack the means, the aims of the ass. were:chiropractic treatment made possible for sufferers who can derive benefit from it - such treatment only to be given by fully qualified chriopractors to pave the way for chiropractic to be incorporated in the National Health Scheme.
ESTABLISHED
ProChiropractic Europe (PCE) was established in Paris 1966 (then called European Federation of ProChiropractic, EFPC) by H. Buchbinder (Schwitz), dr. Schmuckler (France), dr. H.A.Simonsen (Denmark) and dir Krause (Denmark) and some more participants from the chiropractic world It is an international organisation, based on the principle, that chiropractic should be an independent health care choice for every citizen in Europe - and it works for the promotion of this principle. The European Federation of ProChiropractic,EFPC - (which was then name then, but changed in 2002), was reactivated in Copenhagen 1993 - by the initative of the Danish ProChirop.ass. Landsforeningen Kiropraktikkens FremmeLKF and several chiropractors .The EU lobbyist Tonny Kinsella from Schuman Associates had on several occasions supported the formation of patient associations: "At all possible levels, local, national and European, it will be vital to cooperate as closely as possible with sympathetic organisations such as patient organisations, ProChiropractic associations, consumer associations, etc."
2008
Today 2008 there are ProChirop. ass. in: Great Britany,Italy, Netherland, Schweiz, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Finland, Rep. of Ireland and France. PCE represents the voice of the chiropractic consumer on an international level, not on a national level, and as a consequence the work in the association falls into three areas.

1. It provides a forum for the exchange of ideas for the promotion of chiropractic as an independent health care option in the European countries.

2. It represents the members on a European Level and undertakes lobbying and other measures, which will assist the promotion of chiropractic as an independent profession in Europe.

3. Administrative work associated with the running of the organisation.

INFORMATION
1. The PCE presently uses three methods of dissimination of information and ideas relating to the promotion of chiropractic

a. The Internet

b. Emails, DVD, phonecalls and letters from the Executive/President from time to time

c. Meetings if needed and General Assembly in connection with the ECU convention - with the PCE Executive Committee and sometimes the delegates.

2. The work designed to influence political decisions is carried out on close cooperation with the chiropractic profession through the European Chiropractor Union (ECU).

3. New members. The extent to which support for new National ProChiropractic patient ass. can be extended, should be discussed and decided. It should be agreed, how this work is being done and by whom. It is nessary for one person, possibly the President, to act as official contact person in order for this support to be efficient and helpful.

Other actions.
The PCE should not act without agreement within the organisation or at least the Executive Council, the actions of which should be guided by the decisions of the yearly assembly of the members of the PCE and the resources available. It is ofcourse possible to develop further plans as the need for them arises and the funding has been agreed. To the annual subscription to the PCE there is no per capita fee - at this stage. Smaller ass.are not in a position to contribute large sums and should provide only what they can afford. It is the old and well established ProChiropractic ass. that makes the big contributions, for which the PCE is thankful. Contributions from the ECU and different national chiropractors ass. are the great supporters It is the PCEs sincere hope, that ALL national ass. will - through their members - be able to find capable and dedicated persons - to activate the work for chiropractic
